July 26, 2024
On 10 July 2024, the European Green Digital Coalition was featured with a panel session at the Digital with Purpose Global Summit 2024, in Cascais.
The panel gathered speakers from the European Commission, EGDC membership and Advisory Board, public administration, SME representative and consultancy.
The session offered a comprehensive overview of the EGDC methodology for assessing the net carbon impact of ICT solutions. The methodology allows to measure the real impact of digitalisation, with the aim of maximising the deployment of digital solutions with proven positive impact on environment and climate. Speakers delved into practical insights and challenges from real-world implementation of ICT solutions in cities, such as in the cities of Brescia (Italy) with Cisco, or in Braga, the third most populated city in Portugal. Emphasis was placed on the importance of data access and analysis, enabling informed decision-making for effective and sustainable city management, as well as competitiveness gains for companies that can provide their customers, investors and other stakeholders with concrete insights into their sustainability performance.
Looking into the future of the Coalition, speakers explored strategies for advancing sustainability in urban/rural and business contexts across sectors via adoption of the EGDC methodology. They discussed solutions for green public procurement and ways to empower SMEs to measure the impact of their sustainable ICT solutions using this methodology. Collaborations at the local level between SMEs, cities, large companies, and other stakeholders were highlighted as essential for creating innovative and sustainable solutions that also positively impact society and enhance citizens’ quality of life.
