BT Group and Sopra Steria join the EGDC
May 03, 2022
The Green Digital Coalition had the pleasure to welcome two new members lately: the UK-based telecommunications company BT Group, as well as the French group Sopra Steria, specialised in consulting, digital services and software development. Both companies expressed their commitment towards achieving the EGDC’s goals and explained their motivation to join the Coalition in a short statement.
BT is joining the European Green Digital Coalition because the group believes that by developing a common set of methodologies and driving innovation across the tech sector, we have the opportunity to create a fairer, more resilient and low carbon society. BT has led on climate action for more than 30 years and is widely regarded as a business leader when it comes to tackling its carbon emissions head on. BT was one of the first companies in the world to set a science based carbon reduction target and in September 2021 brought forward its net zero target from 2045 to 2030 for its own operational emissions and 2040 for its supply chain and customer emissions.
As far as Sopra Steria is concerned, its motivation to join the EGDC initiative is based on the opportunity the Coalition gives for like-minded companies in the digital sector to work in concert to develop solutions to combat climate change. Such solutions will enable governments, companies and citizens to transition to a Net Zero economy, by 2050 or earlier, thus ensuring the long-term survival of the human race and protection of the biodiversity of our planet.
The EGDC Secretariat warmly welcomes the new members and wishes for a fruitful collaboration.
