27 September 2022  |  10:00 WEST

On 27 September 2022, the European Green Digital Coalition participated with a session in the Digital With Purpose Global Summit in Lisbon. The Digital with Purpose Summit is a flagship event for digital leaders and convening public and private sector decision-makers to accelerate the use and uptake of digital innovations that benefit society and achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

The session “European Green Digital Coalition: Assessing the climate impact of digital solutions“, which was moderated by Ilias Iakovidis from the European Commission’s DG CONNECT, presented the objectives, working methods, and target impacts of the EGDC. Panellists were comprised of EGDC member representatives, representatives of companies that have provided a case study for the EGDC, EGDC Advisory Board members and EGDC Pilot Project partners representatives.

The first panel introduced the EGDC Case Studies. The EGDC is developing standardised assessment methodologies to calculate the net impact of green digital solutions on climate in priority sectors such as energy, transport, manufacturing, agriculture and the building sector.

The second panel addressed the preliminary list of KPIs developed within the EGDC Pilot Project, discussing how the KPIs allow the monitoring of progress towards the commitments of the EGDC Declaration, notably “the investment in the development and deployment of green digital solutions with significant energy and material efficiency that achieve a net positive impact in a wide range of sectors”.

The session stressed the importance of collaboration at all levels to achieve the objectives set by the EGDC.
